Nik Lentz is as tough as they come, but the newly retired UFC fighter may have just crossed the line of no return.

Lentz, who lost to Movsar Evloev via split decision last weekend at UFC 257, retired after the fight citing issues with his vision dating back to a previous loss to Arnold Allen. The long-time UFC veteran has dropped his last three Octagon appearances so the decision wasn’t completely unwarranted, but Lentz did hold his own against a rising contender in Evloev.

Making matters worse for Lentz is the fact that he suffered more damage to his eye in his loss to Evloev. “Carny” was battered and bloodied throughout three rounds with the Russian youngster and never gave up. His efforts were admirable, but the aftermath left Lentz looking like he was hit in the face with a bowling ball.

One week after UFC 257 and Lentz is still looking a little banged up. The newly retired fighter recently shared a video to Twitter showing himself remove the stitches he earned on “Fight Island” from his own eye. Check it out below if you aren’t squeamish:

Lentz, who produced a UFC record of 14-9-1 (1 NC) during his time with the promotion, is probably walking away from MMA at the right time. Loss of vision is nothing to dismiss, especially for a 36-year-old with two daughters, so it’s nice to see Lentz making the right decision for his long-term health.

The above video may be a grotesque depiction of Lentz as a fighter, but these are the exact moments fight fans will miss from “The Carny.”
