Cory Sandhagen likely cemented his bid for a bantamweight title shot earlier tonight (Sat., Feb. 6, 2021) at UFC Vegas 18 live on ESPN+ from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, when “Sandman” put former UFC champion Frankie Edgar to sleep with a jumping knee just 28 seconds into the first round.

Edgar looked good in his walkout and early advancements on the feet, but Sandhagen’s movement and length quickly became a factor. “Sandman” was able to land a beautiful jumping knee right on Edgar’s chin as he entered along the cage. Edgar immediately went stiff and his bodied planked to the canvas. It was difficult to watch, but one of the best knockout finishes you’ll probably ever see.

This is now Sandhagen’s second-straight knockout finish after taking out Marlon Moraes with a spinning wheel kick back in October. Sandhagen does own a loss to No. 1 contender Aljamain Sterling, who will fight current UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan next month at UFC 259, but “Sandman” has shown enough over his last two outings to get the next shot at gold.
