Prior to the second round of the Strikeforce Grand Prix quarterfinals, which will commence this weekend, Strikeforce officials have enforced a new rule ahead of the tournament.

MMAFighting.com reports that fighters will endure a sudden death round in order to prevent a draw and determine a winner. Marc Ratner, Zuffa’s vice president of regulatory affairs, told the Web site that all bouts that are declared as a draw will be settled in a fourth and final round. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker originally planned to have four judges to sit ringside, however, that idea obviously appears to be scrapped.

The second bracket of the quarterfinals will feature heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum, as well as Josh Barnett competing against Brett Rogers.

The Strikeforce Grand Prix semifinals is scheduled to take place later this fall.

Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum is expected to take place this weekend, live from the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas.
