UFC lightweight Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone (15–3, NC1) has agreed to step in for injured Canadian John Makdessi, who pulled out of his upcoming UFC on Versus 5 (aka UFC Live: Hardy vs. Lytle) bout last week.
Cerrone now meets three time “Fight of the Night” winner ‘Relentless’ Paul Taylor in August.
Due to injury, John Makdessi has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming bout against Brit Paul Taylor. Stepping in for “The Bull” will be Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, who’s coming off a one-sided win over Wagner Rocha at UFC 131. Dana White confirmed today that verbal agreements are in for the new lightweight bout.
UFC on Versus 5 is scheduled to take place on Aug. 14 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the promotions first trip to that State.
Cerrone has won four straight, including both of his UFC appearances, earning a unanimous decision over late UFC 131 replacement Vagner Rocha earlier this month in Vancouver. The ‘Cowboy’ made his debut last February at UFC 126, submitting Paul Kelly with a rear-naked choke in the second round of their fight. The bout earned both fighters the “Fight of the Night” bonus, the first in the UFC and sixth of his career under Zuffa.
Taylor earned a win in his last Octagon appearance after losing two straight. His record in the UFC stands at 4-5 with three “Fight of the Night” bonuses. His win, over Gabe Ruediger at UFC 126 was a brutal knockout victory after Taylor connected with a headkick. The two back-to-back losses occurred against Sam Stout at UFC 121 and to John Hathaway at UFC 105.
