Aspen Ladd is getting a main event slot soon after her scary weight miss.
Aspen Ladd badly missed weight for her UFC Vegas 38 bout this past weekend, and once again it was another scary scene on the scales. The badly dehydrated 26-year-old took very long to weigh-in, and was shaking and struggling to stand on the scale.
She missed weight for the second time in her UFC career, and the bout was eventually scrapped. Miesha Tate even got in an ugly back-and-forth with her coach after, accusing Ladd of trying to cheat the scale.
A move up to featherweight is probably the right move at this point in her career. Fortunately for Ladd, she not only gets to do that immediately, she also even gets to headline a UFC event.
According to a report from ESPN, Holly Holm has pulled out of her bout against Norma Dumont on October 16 due to injury. Ladd is reportedly tapped to replace her in the UFC main event, and the bout is expected to be finalized soon.
The bout will still be five rounds at featherweight, which is 10 lbs over the bantamweight limit that Ladd just missed for the second time.
Ladd went from 141.5 lbs to 137 on her two failed attempts at weighing in this past weekend. In 2019, the California State Athletic Commission suspended Ladd’s license after gaining 18% of her weight from the weigh-ins to fight day, but she was still booked for two bantamweight bouts after.
Ladd vs Dumont will mark UFC Vegas 40’s third main event. As mentioned earlier, they lost Holm vs Dumont due to injury, while the original main event of Miesha Tate vs Ketlen Viera was scrapped due to COVID-19.
