Former UFC champion, and current Hall of Famer, Matt Hughes (45-8) posted that message on Twitter (@matthughes9x) Tuesday evening announcing that a fight with Josh Koscheck (15-5) was all but a done deal.
Earlier in the day, Hughes had posted an earlier message on Twitter saying that he’d verbally accepted a fight with either Koscheck or John Fitch.
– Still waiting to hear back from the UFC. I have said “yes” to facing either Koscheck or Fitch at UFC 135. I should know more later.
Hughes had been scheduled to meet Diego Sanchez this month at UFC 135, but a broken hand forced ‘The Dream’ off the Colorado card.
Former welterweight contender, Koscheck, posted a notice on Twitter on Monday saying that he’d been tagged as a possible replacement barring Hughes accepting the fight.
Well with less than three weeks left to prepare for both fighters, it looks like both fighters will meet on the main card of UFC 135 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.
Both fighters will enter the match on a loss, Hughes suffering a first round KO to B.J. Penn at UFC 123, and Koscheck losing a unanimous decision to champ Georges St-Pierre at UFC 124.
UPDATE (8:22PM EST) – UFC President Dana White makes Hughes vs. Koscheck official via Twitter (@danawhite).
– Diego broke his hand so Hughes will now fight Koscheck.
