Two former UFC heavyweight champions will square off in Toronto in December at UFC 140, as Brazilian Antônio Rodrigo ‘Big Nog’ Nogueira (33-6-1, 1NC) faces Frank Mir (15-5) in a rematch of their first fight three years earlier at UFC 92.
“Both men are known as two of the premiere submission specialists in the division but have shown dangerous striking skills as well,” said UFC president Dana White.
UFC 140 is scheduled to take place on December 10 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Both men met back on December 27, 2008 in the co-main event of UFC 92. Mir would earn a second round TKO victory, the first knockout loss of Nogueira’s career, and Mir would walk away with the interim UFC heavyweight title.
Nogueira recently earned a solid knockout victory over Brendan Schaub last month at UFC 134 in Rio. It was ‘Big Nog’s’ first bout in a year-and-a-half after losing to Cain Velasquez in a No. 1 contender bout. Nogueira would undergo surgery to repair his hips and knees afterwords, and now looks to return to title contention.
After their UFC 92 meeting, Mir would go on to face Brock Lesnar next at UFC 100 and lose that bout by second round TKO. The heavyweight would then go on to earn a 3-1 record with recent victories over Roy Nelson at UFC 130 and Mirko Filipovic at UFC 119.
