Nick Diaz won’t be fighting Georges St-Pierre for the welterweight title at UFC 137, but he will remain on the card after all.

Twenty-four hours after announcing Diaz (25-7, 1 NC) was out of the main event after failing to attend his media obligations in Toronto and Las Vegas this week, UFC president Dana White tweeted Thursday night that Diaz would now be fighting BJ Penn (16-7-2) at UFC 137 on Oct. 29 in Las Vegas. Of course, Penn’s original opponent on the card, Carlos Condit, was the man who replaced Diaz in the main event.

Penn also confirmed the news via Twitter Thursday night.

The fight will most likely serve as the pay-per-view co-main event, which will take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.

Penn hasn’t competed since UFC 127 when he fought to a draw against Jon Fitch. Since then, he battled a shoulder injury, which kept him on the sidelines over the summer.

Diaz most recently beat Paul Daley in a Strikeforce welterweight title fight in April. This will mark his first fight in the UFC since he beat Gleison Tibau at UFC 65 in Nov. 2006.
