Originally, James Head and Mark Scanlon had been scheduled to meet in a welterweight matchup for November’s UFC 138 event. An injury to Scanlon forced the British fighter off the card to be replaced by UFC newcomer John ‘The One’ Maguire (16-3).
Now the promotion is reporting that Head too has succumbed to the injury bug, and has been forced to withdraw from the November show. Replacing him will be Ohio native Justin ‘Fast Eddy’ Edwards (7-1).
UFC 138: Leben vs. Muñoz is scheduled to take place on November 5 at the LG Arena in Birmingham, England. The event features the first five-round, non-title bout in the UFC’s history which will feature middleweights Chris Leben vs. Mark Muñoz.
Maguire is currently riding a five-bout win streak which includes three straight title defenses of his UCMMA welterweight belt. The British based fighter fought last weekend at the Ultimate Challenge MMA event in London, defending his title by split decision in the main event against Peter Irving.
Edwards is 1-1 in the UFC so far having appeared as a member of Team dos Santos on season thirteen of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series. Edwards debuted at the TUF 13 Finale against castmate Clay Harvison, lsing a split decision at the Vegas event. ‘Fast Eddy’ then went on to meet Jorge Lopez at this months UFC Fight Night 25 event in New Orleans, picking up his first Octagon win by unanimous decision.
