Ian Garry hasn’t had the best few weeks when it comes to social media, which is why the welterweight contender is nervous to travel to America for his bout with Vicente Luque next weekend at UFC 296 in Las Vegas.
Garry, who is one of the most heralded young fighters in mixed martial arts (MMA) today, has encountered some serious backlash from his combat peers over the past few weeks as details about his marriage emerged. Garry has been accused of being groomed by his wife, who is much older, and a lot of UFC fighters have voiced their opinions about the situation while bashing Garry in the process.
With the biggest fight of his career just one week away Garry is a bit concerned about traveling with his family and possibly encountering some of the fighters who have negatively dogged him online, which includes current UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland.

“I’m excited for UFC 296,” Garry told TNT Sports (shown above). “I think it’s a massive card, a card with all the big names, a lot of big matchups. I’m a little bit cautious about going to America for the safety of my family with all the sh-t that’s been going on online. To protect my wife, to protect my child, to protect myself.”
UFC is likely aware of the current situation and we’re sure the promotion will take extra measures to ensure that Garry and his family are safe during their trip to Las Vegas. Of course, that doesn’t mean Garry won’t be in danger when he throws hands with Luque. “The Silent Assassin” is one of the best finishes the welterweight division has to offer and a current teammate of Garry’s at Kill Cliff FC.
