Rumored for the past while, welterweights Josh Koscheck (16-5) and Carlos ‘The Natural Born Killer’ Condit (27-5) look set to clash in February at UFC 143.

Official word from the Ultimate Fighting Championship promotion should come down in the next day or so to announce the matchup. What is not clear, is what a win for Koscheck will do for his placement in the welterweight division as Condit had been scheduled as the next No. 1 contender before stepping aside for Nick Diaz.

UFC 143 is expected to take place on Feb. 4, 2012 on Super Bowl weekend at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is expected to host a welterweight title fight between UFC champ Georges St-Pierre and former Strikeforce title holder, Nick Diaz.

Koscheck will enter the bout on a victory, having finished former champ Matt Hughes by first round KO in September at UFC 135. Koscheck took the bout on short notice replacing an injured Diego Sanchez. Previous to that, Koscheck had been sidelined for half the year after suffering a broken orbital bone in his loss to St-Pierre at UFC 124 last December.

Condit has won four straight matches, the last two by knockout for which he’s received the “Knockout of the Night” bonus after KOing Dong Hyun Kim with a flying knee and Dan Hardy with a solid punch. The former WEC welterweight champ is 12-1 in his last thirteen, dropping his Octagon debut to Martin Kampmann by split decision in April 2009.
