A news report from Heavy.com has UFC welterweights Diego ‘The Dream’ Sanchez (23-4) and Jake ‘The Juggernaught’ Ellenberger (26-5) agreeing to meet, with the event and date to be determined.
An announcement early this fall had both fighters meeting at UFC 141 but a lingering hand injury to Sanchez forced him off the card, and will keep him out of action until February. Currently events expected for February include UFC 143 and 144, so it could be either or neither show.
Sanchez broke his hand leading up to a UFC 135 bout this past September against Matt Hughes. ‘The Dream’ was forced to withdraw and has spent his time healing for his next fight. He is currently riding a two fight win streak, but is just 2-2 over his last four. Sanchez has scored back-to-back “Fight of the Night” bonuses by earning unanimous decisions against Martin Kampmann and Paulo Thiago.
Ellenberger was last in action in September winning a quick knockout victory over Jake Shields at UFC Fight Night 25 in New Orleans. That was ‘The Juggernaught’s’ fifth straight win and puts his record at 10-1 over his last eleven matches. In 2011, Ellenberger has also scored victories over Sean Pierson, KO at UFC 129, and against Carlos Eduardo Rocha, via split decision at UFC 126.
