The Ultimate Fighting Championship promotion confirmed several bouts for next months upcoming UFC on Fox 2 event, as well as naming two more unheard of bouts to the Chicago card.
Featherweights George Roop (12-8-1) vs. Cub Swanson (15-5) ensures some exciting action in the Octagon, while former TUF 12 teammates Michael ‘The Menace’ Johnson (9-6) and Cody ‘AK Kid’ McKenzie (12-2) are set to meet in a lightweight matchup.
UFC on Fox 2 is set to take place on January 28th at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. Both bouts will likely take place on the preliminary card which will likely air on a Fox.com address.
Roop is 1-2 in his last three, having lost a split decision to Hatsu Hioki in the Japanese fighters UFC debut at UFC 137. Previously Rop had KO’d Josh Grispi at the TUF 13 Finale and had been TKO’d himself by Mark Hominick at the UFC: Fight for the Troops 2 event.
Swanson also holds the same record of 1-2 in his last three, but only debuted with the UFC in his last fight on the first Fox card last month. Swanson would lose to Ricardo Lamas by second round submission at the Anaheim event. Swanson’s other two bouts took part under the WEC banner, winning a split decision against Mackens Semerzier and losing by decision to current No. 1 contender Chad Mendes.
Johnson was last in the Octagon on October 1st, losing by heel hook submission to Brit Paul Sass at the UFC on Versus 6 event. The defeat put ‘The Menace’ at 1-2 in the UFC, having earned his first win by TKOing Eddie Faaloloto at UFC on Versus 4 and losing his debut against Jonathan Brookins in the TUF 12 final in Las Vegas.
McKenzie, who was a teammate of Johnson’s on the TUF show, holds the same 1-2 record in the UFC but won his UFC debut and has then gone on to lose two straight. Recently he was submitted by Vagner Rocha at UFC Fight Night 25 in New Orleans in September. The other matches include a submission loss to Yves Edwards at the Fight for the Troops 2 event and winning his debut against TUF 12 housemate Aaron Wilkinson at the TUF 12 Finale.
