The Ultimate Fighting Championship took a big hit today when promotion president Dana White announced that one of it’s top pay-per-view draws, UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre, had suffered a torn-ACL and would be out for up to ten months.
White also announced in his Twitter message (@danawhite) that Carlos Condit would step up to replace St-Pierre at UFC 143 against Nick Diaz, with the two fighting for an interim welterweight title.
GSP blown acl will be out for 10 mos. Now Condit vs Diaz for the interim welterweight title on Feb 4th in Las Vegas!!
This is the second time in two months that the Canadian champ has been forced to withdraw from a fight due to injury. That too was a knee injury, with St-Pierre withdrawing from a scheduled title defense versus Carlos Condit at UFC 137.
UFC 143 will now be headlined by the Condit vs. Diaz match, which is set to take place on February 4th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
