Former interim UFC Heavyweight Champion Antônio Rodrigo ‘Big Nog’ Nogueira (33–7–1, 1NC) suffered a brutal broken arm last weekend in Toronto, Ontario after refusing to tap to a Kimura submission by opponent Frank Mir in the co-main event of UFC 140.
It was a rematch versus Mir, ending in the same result with another loss, this one coming at 3:38 of the first. Mir would end up breaking the humerus of Nogueira’s right arm.
After the bout, Nogueira was flown down to Los Angeles, California to see specialists there who felt that the Brazilian would not have to undergo surgery.
But his doctors re-evaluated the injury, deciding the former champ would need surgery. Nogueira would undergo surgery this past Friday night in Vail, Colorado with doctors going through the tricept to repair the arm. According to Tatame.com, the former champ is hopeful for a return to training by this June.
The doctors say he might return to the trains in June. Rodrigo went to Vail and went through new tests, which pointed out the need of the surgery. His biceps wasn’t touched during the process. The “entrance” was made on the triceps, what means he won’t lose strenght on this very arm.
