Former Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem had to submit a urine test on December 14th in order to meet the licensing criteria laid out by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

The results of that test came back today, with a negative result, clearing the Dutch fighter to face former UFC champ Brock Lesnar in the main event of UFC 141 later this month.

UFC president Dana White Tweeted (@DanaWhite) the news on Tuesday.

Overeem is ready to go!!! Lesnar vs Overeem is on!

‘The Reem’ had to fly to the UK earlier this month to have the test supervised by an agency approved by the NSAC. Overeem had submitted a blood sample for testing in November while in Holland, but it was not what the NSAC was looking for, having asked the fighter to submit to a urine test six days earlier.

Now that he’s been cleared, he and Lesnar are set to meet on December 30th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This doesn’t mean that Overeem is out of the woods yet though, he still has to submit to three more drug tests, a pre-fight test the day before UFC 141, and two more random drug tests within the next six months. The later two tests will be at Overeem’s expense.
