Canelo Alvarez will go up against UFC 306 later tonight (Sat., Sept. 14, 2024) LIVE on DAZN pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the Mexican superstar will get paid handsomely to do so.

Alvarez, who remains one of boxing’s biggest stars, will defend his WBA, WBC and WBO super middleweight titles in a main event clash with undefeated knockout artist Edgar Berlanga. It’s a matchup that heavily favors the 34-year-old Alvarez, but Berlanga is a fiery spark plug inside of the ring and has the power to deliver a fight-changing blow.

What makes things more interesting is that Alvarez vs. Berlanga will be going down the same time as Noche UFC from inside Las Vegas’ Sphere. It’s a huge event for UFC that should attract a ton of interest from the combat community, but the boxing powers still staged Canelo’s return on the same night in hopes of still delivering a profitable fight card.

As always, Alvarez stands to make a huge amount of cash for his services. Per Marca, Canelo is expected to earn around $35 million for his fight this weekend in “Sin City.” That’s the amount he made for his last fight when he defeated Jaime Munguia back in May. Canelo typically gets 80 percent of the revenue from ticket sales and concessions so the Mexican fighter stands to make even more when it’s all said and done.

As for Berlanga, his official fight purse is unknown at this time. However, given how much some of Canelo’s opponents have made in the past and that fact that Berlanga will take home the remaining 20 percent of additional revenue, the Brooklyn-native should walk away with somewhere in the range of $1-$3 million. Not too shabby. That would easily be his biggest payday to date.
