A welterweight tilt has been added to February’s UFC 143 event as ‘The Immortal’ Matt Brown (12-11) is set to meet Chris ‘C-Murder’ Cope (5-2) in Las Vegas.
UFC officials announced the matchup Friday morning at UFC.com.
UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit is set to take place on February 4, 2012 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is headlined by a UFC interim welterweight title match between Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit.
Brown (Pictured) is 1-4 in his last five Octagon appearances and is almost assuredly on his last legs in the UFC should he lose this match. His last fight was in November at UFC 139 where he ended up losing to Seth Baczynski via second round guillotine choke putting ‘The Immortal’ at 1-1 in his last two. Brown had stepped in for an injured Pascal Krauss at UFC 138, but opponent John Hathaway pulled out at the last minute due to injury and the fight was scrapped. The one victory in that 1-4 stretch was a decision win against John Howard last June at the UFC on Versus 4 show, he had been scheduled to face Rich Attonito who got bumped up higher on the card aftern an injury to Martin Kampmann.
Cope was a member of Team Lesnar during the thirteenth season of “The Ultimate Fighter” losing in the semifinals to Ramsey Nijem via TKO. ‘C-Murder’ would debut at the TUF 13 Finale by defeating fellow TUF semifinalist Chuck O’Neil by decision at the Vegas event. Cope would then go on to face newcomer Che Mills at UFC 138 in England, losing via first round TKO.
