Amanda Serrano looked to have done enough to defeat undisputed super lightweight champion Katie Taylor last night (Fri., Nov. 15, 2024) LIVE on Netflix from inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Tex., but the judges thought Taylor was better over the course of 10 rounds to retain her titles and capture another controversial win over Serrano.

After a back-and-forth opening minute, Serrano landed a massive left hand followed by a stiff right that left Taylor on skates. Serrano moved in for the kill and had the champion in trouble, but Taylor hung on to beat the bell. Taylor would regroup over the two rounds to land some good counter shots and regain some momentum, but Serrano was more active and more willing to play with fire.

Unfortunately for Serrano, she suffered a cut above her right eye after an accidental headbutt and it would play a factor later in the fight.

Taylor needed to stay mobile on her feet and move away from Serrano’s invitation for a brawl, but she kept getting tracked down and put along the ropes. It allowed Serrano to land punches in bunches and sway the momentum her way. Once again, Serrano suffered another accidental headbutt in Round 6 on the exact same spot. The cut opened up even more and skin looked to be hanging off of Serrano’s eyebrow.

Taylor took advantage of the situation and found a home for hard punches to the head in the seventh round. Serrano responded with a collection of her own shots and remained set on pressuring the champion. Another headbutt seemed to land in Round 8, but Serrano shook it off again. Taylor was issued another warning. It looked like Taylor lead with her head once more towards the end of the frame and the referee stepped in to take a point.

The two female legends would go toe-to-toe over the final two rounds, similar to what they did in their first matchup. The cut was clearly bothering Serrano, but she stayed busy and was willing to exchange in the pocket. Taylor was exhausted, but she also powered through to do serious damage while unloading the tank. It was an incredible display of boxing and world-class toughness, but a 10-round affair that was ultimately marred by a few accidental headbutts.

In the end, it was Taylor who walked away with a unanimous decision win, capturing a 95-94 score on all three scorecards. Check out the video highlights below and let us know who you thought won the fight:
