Ramiz Brahimaj made a memorable homecoming earlier tonight (Sat., Nov. 16, 2024) at UFC 309 LIVE on ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV) from inside Madison Square Garden in New York City, scoring a vicious first-round knockout (punch) over welterweight veteran Mickey Gall. It was the first time the Bronx native has fought professionally in the state of New York.
Brahimaj was actually a betting underdog entering this early “Prelims” headliner despite possessing a 100% finish rate over the course of 10 professional wins. Gall, on the other hand, was coming into UFC 309 riding a three-fight losing streak. It was imperative that Gall put on a good performance to keep his UFC career alive.
Unfortunately for Gall, Brahimaj simply wanted it more. The welterweight submission specialist completely abandoned his ground game and was more than willing to stand in the pocket and exchange with Gall. It eventually led to a massive right hand landed by Brahimaj that instantly crumbled Gall along the cage. Brahimaj tallied on a few insurance shots, but they weren’t needed.

Brahimaj, 32, was coming off a tough decision loss to Themba Gorimbo his last time out so this was a great way to close out 2024 in front of his home crowd. The Albanian fighter looked incredible tonight and could be a dark horse to threaten the top 15 next year, especially if he can pair this type of knockout power with his suffocating grappling.
