Almost missed this one from Thursday’s announcements, as a welterweight scrap between Jake Hecht (11-2) and T.J. Waldburger (14-6) was confirmed by UFC officials via Twitter (@ufc) yesterday for the upcoming UFC on FX 2 show in Australia.
– oh man and we left one out – also official for Australia – Jake “The Hitman” Hecht vs. submission specialist TJ Waldburger.
Hecht announced last month that he was set to fight Waldburger, but it wasn’t confirmed until yesterday.
UFC on FX: Alves vs. Kampmann (aka UFC on FX 2) is expected to take place on March 3, 2012 at the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia. Fans should expect the Hecht vs. Waldburger fight to take place on the nights preliminary card.
Hecht debuted with the UFC last month in Toronto, beating Rich Attonito via second round TKO at UFC 140. The win was Hecht’s fourth straight and puts him at 11-1 in his last twelve matches. Previous wins in the current run have taken him around the world to places like Amman, Jordan at a CWFC event, a Cage Warriors Fighting Championship show in Cork, Ireland, and finally a victory at a PCL – Cage Madness show in Illinois.
Waldburger (pictured) is coming off a “Submission of the Night” victory over Mike Stumpf in September at the UFN 25. The win helped him bounce back from a loss to Johny Hendricks at UFN 24 via first round TKO. The Texas based fighter is now 2-1 in the UFC, having made his debut at UFN 22 in his home state by defeating David Mitchell by unanimous decision.
