Ailin Perez scored the biggest win of her career thus far, besting Karol Rosa at UFC 311 and skyrocketing herself into the bantamweight top ten.
Perez got off to a strong start, scoring an early takedown and pinning Rosa to the mat. Before long, Rosa scrambled her way back up and used the time remaining in the opening round to light up Perez’s legs with a series of calf kicks.
Rosa looked to pick up right where she left off in the second, but a flying knee attempt late in the round gave Perez the opening she needed to tie up her opponent and get the fight back to the ground with over 90 seconds to go. Rosa kept Perez locked into her half-guard, preventing the Argentinian from capitalizing on the dominant position.
Potentially down 0-2 going into the third, Rosa came out with a little more intent, swinging heavier and getting back to her lead leg attack. That prompted Perez to tie up against the fence near the halfway point of the round, but Rosa separated herself and got right back to work in the center of the Octagon.
Rosa’s work in the third was good enough to lock up the round, but her lack of urgency ultimately led to Perez notching a fifth-straight win inside the Octagon.
Official Result: Ailin Perez def. Karol Rosa via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
