Quillan Salkilld delivered an incredible Octagon debut earlier tonight (Sat., Feb. 8, 2025) at UFC 312 LIVE on ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV) from inside Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia, stopping India’s Anshul Jubli with a stunning 19-second knockout (punch).
Salkilld was a massive betting favorite fin his UFC debut and for good reason. The 25-year-old lightweight looked dominant in a decision win on Dana White’s Contender Series back in Sept. 2024 and was going up against a fighter in Jubli who was coming off a knockout loss to Mike Breeden his last time out. Not to mention the fact that Salkilld was making his UFC debut in front of his home crowd. This was Salkilld’s fight to win and he made sure he took full advantage.
It took both lightweights no time to start exchanging on the feet. Jubli landed a nice punch to the body, but it didn’t seem to faze Salkilld. The Australian fighter countered with a nice stiff jab. A few moments later, Salkilld faked another jab and followed up with a powerful right hand that caught Jubli on the side of the head. Jubli toppled to the canvas and the referee was quick to step in. The entire sequence took 19 seconds.
Jubli, who wasn’t completely out when the fight was stopped, made his case that the stoppage was called early. Upon replay, the punch landed flush and when Jubli hit the ground his head did, too. It was a good call by the referee and a memorable debut by one of Australia’s most promising young prospects.
