UFC light heavyweights Brandon ‘The Truth’ Vera (12-5, 1NC) and Thiago Silva (14-2, 1NC) are set to rematch this coming May at the upcoming UFC on FX 3 card.
Just over a year ago, Vera and Silva squared off at UFC 125 with the Brazilian dominating the fight, breaking Vera’s nose on the way to a unanimous decision. After the fight it was discovered that Silva had falsified his urine sample and was slapped with a one year suspension. Vera, who had been released by the UFC following the loss was re-instated in the promotion.
Now the two are set to meet again (@UFC.com).
Light heavyweights Thiago Silva and Brandon “The Truth” Vera have verbally agreed to wrap up some unfinished business this May in Fairfax, VA. “Their last fight ended up a no contest and both guys are out to prove that they are the better man,” said UFC president Dana White.
Verbal agreements are also in for a middleweight matchup at that event between “Filthy” Tom Lawlor and Jason “The Athlete” MacDonald.
The bouts will take place at the just-announced third UFC on FX event, tentatively scheduled for May 15 in Fairfax, Virginia. More details including venue information and ticket on-sales will be announced in coming weeks.
After Vera was re-instated with the UFC, ‘The Truth’ would make his return bout at UFC 137, where he earned a unanimous decision over Eliot Marshall at the Las Vegas show. Previous to that, Vera had the “No Contest” versus Silva and had suffered two consecutive losses. Those defeats were to Jon Jones and to Randy Couture. His overall UFC record now stands at 8-5 (1 NC).
Silva now finishes his years suspension handed down by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and returns to the Octagon with a 1-2 (1 NC) record. Before the Vera bout, the Brazilian had lost a unanimous decision to Rashad Evans, earned a knockout over Keith Jardine, and was KO’d by Lyoto Machida. Silva’s UFC record now stands at 5-2 (1 NC).
