Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) Executive Director Keith Kizer confirmed today that UFC 143 main event headliner Nick Diaz tested positive for “marijuana metabolites” following his post fight drug screening following last weekends Las Vegas event.
Diaz was the only fighter to fail the drug screening of all the fighters tested from UFC 143. A total of eighteen competitors were tested following the Feb. 4, 2012 event, names include Diaz’ opponent Carlos Condit, as well as fighters Fabricio Werdum, Josh Koscheck, Renan Barao, Ed Herman, Dustin Poirier, Max Holloway, Matt Riddle, Henry Martinez, Edwin Figueroa, Alex Caceres, Matt Brown, Chris Cope, Rafael Natal, Michael Kuiper, Stephen Thompson and Dan Stittgen.
This is the second such positive drug screening for Diaz in the state of Nevada. He tested previously for marijuana in 2007 following a win over Takanor Gomi. The result of that bout was changed to a “No Contest” and Diaz received a six month suspension.
Currently the NSAC has yet to deliver a sentence for this second infraction, which may be more severe and will certainly remove Diaz from any talk of a rematch with Carlos Condit.
