Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White announced a high profile matchup between welterweights Josh Koscheck (17-5) and Johny Hendricks (12-1) for this May’s upcoming UFC on FOX 3 event via Twitter (@danawhite) on Sunday.
UFC on Fox 3 is expected to take place on May 5, 2012 at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey and with the inclusion of this bout, sits at nine matches for the television event. There should be little doubt that the fight featuring Koscheck vs. Hendricks will take place on the main card.
Koscheck earned a split decision last weekend beating Mike Pierce via split decision on the main card of the Las Vegas show. The victory was Koscheck’s second straight win and puts him at 5-1 in his last six matches. The other win, Koscheck’s only fight of 2011, took place in September at UFC 135 with a first round knockout of Matt Hughes. The victories erased a decision loss to welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre at UFC 124 in their title match.
Hendricks won his third straight and is now 7-1 in the Octagon since debuting with the UFC in August 2009. Hendricks earned probably his biggest victory last December at UFC 141 by knocking out Jon Fitch in just twelve-seconds. The two other victories in his current winning streak include a split decision over Mike Pierce and a first round TKO finish of TJ Waldburger at UFN 24.
