A light heavyweight bout was added to the upcoming UFC 146 event pitting TUF 8 alum Kyle ‘Kingsbu’ Kingsbury (11-3, 1NC) against Brazilian newcomer Glover Teixeira (17-2).
UFC officials announced the match Wednesday night “and longtime standout Glover Teixeira makes his highly-anticipated UFC debut in a light heavyweight bout against Kyle Kingsbury.”
UFC 146 is expected to take place on May 26, 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is also expected to host a UFC heavyweight title bout between UFC champ Junior dos Santos and the last Strikeforce champion, Alistair Overeem.
Kingsbury had a four fight win streak put to an end by Stephan Bonnar last November in a unanimous decision loss at UFC 139. ‘Kingsbu’ had earned wins over Fabio Maldonado (TUF 13 Finale), Ricardo Romero (UFC 126), Jared Hamman (UFN 22) and Razak Al-Hassaon (UFC 104). Kingsbury debuted as a cast member of TUF season 8, losing to Tom Lawlor at the shows finale.
Teixeira recently signed with the UFC and enters the Octagon on a fifteen fight win streak. His last bout took place in November, a submission (punches) win over one time UFC champion Ricco Rodriguez at a local event in Brazil. It was Teixeira’s fifth win of 2011 which included winning the Shooto South America 220-lb Championship.
