Miami-based rap star “Level” will be announcing his intentions to sign a contract to fight under the Fight Time Promotion.
Fight Time Promotion is a company headed by former American Top Team coach and personal boxing instructor of Chuck Liddell, Howard Davis Jr.
“Level” (real name: Rene Martinez) has four fights in four different promotions. Davis hopes that Fight Time becomes Martinez’s permanent home.
“We wanted to give him an opportunity to be consistent as a professional MMA fighter,” said Howard Davis Jr., CEO of Fight Time Promotions. “Level has dedicated himself to the sport and that’s why we signed him to give him a home with Fight Time Promotions.”
Martinez has drawn a lot of comparisons to another Dade County legend, Kimbo Slice. Both men have become quite the sensation in South Florida, both using the Internet to gain recognition.
In the well-known backyard ring of Dada 5000, Martinez showed why he was given the nickname “Level” by his friends.
Growing up in a world that was filled with every kind of hardship one can imagine, Martinez took to the gang lifestyle.
After seeing the horrors of what gang life brings, “Level” decided to change his life and train professionally. He joined the team at MMA Masters and trained in mixed martial-arts instead of street fighting.
Despite not from the most respectable background, everyone should be cheering for Martinez, whether an MMA fan or not, to prove there’s hope for anyone who feels stuck in their life and can make something of themselves.
