Former WEC lightweight champ, and current UFC lightweight, Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis (15-2) will be sidelined for up to eight weeks for surgery to repair an undisclosed injury.
News of the surgery was made during last Tuesday night’s episode of “UFC Tonight” by UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen, who appears on the program as a guest analyst.
Sonnen updated fans on Pettis current plans, putting to bed rumors that ‘Showtime’ would drop down to 145-lbs for a possible match with UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo.
“To bring you up to speed, Mr. Pettis is going to go in for some surgery — he’s going to be out for about eight weeks. He’s going to make a comeback and it will be at 155 [pounds].”

Pettis is coming off a huge first round knockout of Joe Lauzon last month in Japan. The two squared off on the main card of the pay-per-view event, with Pettis scoring a knockout headkick at 1:21 of the first round.
The victory was ‘Showtime’s’ second in a row after earning a split decision over Jeremy Stephens last October.
