Former Strikeforce heavyweight champion, and current UFC contender, Alistair ‘The Reem’ Overeem (36-11) has failed a pre-fight drug test administered by the Nevada State Athletic Commission following last weeks (March 27, 2012) UFC 146 pre-fight press conference.
Overeem, along with the other five heavyweight fighters, were all tested by the NSAC and ‘The Reem’ was the only one to come up with a positive result.
According to NSAC commissioner Keith Kizer, who notified several websites including MMAWeekly.com, the result of Overeem’s test showed elevated levels of testosterone/epitestosterone (T/E) at a 10-to-1 ratio, far above the 6-to-1 T/E limit the Commission allows.
Overeem was scheduled to face UFC champ Junior dos Santos on May 26, 2012 in Las Vegas in the main event of UFC 146 for the heavyweight title. That bout is now in jeopardy with this positive test.
The Dutch fighter can have his “B” sample tested, and if that sample comes back negative, can apply for a license from the NSAC to fight.
The other fighters tested include champ Dos Santos, Frank Mir, Cain Velasquez, Roy ‘Big Country’ Nelson and Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva.
