At Monday’s fan Q&A session for the UFC on FUEL TV 3 event, UFC vet Aaron ‘A-Train’ Simpson (11-3) officially announced his move to welterweight.

Simpson drops down from the middleweight division and will be welcomed by former No. 1 contender Jon Fitch (23-4-1, 1NC) at this July’s UFC on FUEL TV 4 event.

Simpson Tweeted the event date earlier today, while confirming Fitch as his opponent at the Q&A session in the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia..

UFC on FUEL TV 4 is expected to take place on July 11, 2012 at HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. Fans can certainly expect to see the bout on the televised main card.

Simpson will make the move down to welterweight after a split decision loss to Ronny Markes last February at UFC on FUEL TV 1. The defeat ended ‘A-Train’s’ three fight win streak, three straight decision wins versus opponents Eric Schaver, Brad Tavares, and Mario Miranda. As a middleweight in the UFC, Simpson is 6-3 since debuting back in April 2009.

Fitch suffered his first loss in four years after a knockout defeat at the hands of top contender Johny Hendricks at UFC 141. Before the fight Fitch had recovered from shoulder surgery training for a rematch with BJ Penn at UFC 132. Previous to the defeat, Fitch and Penn fought to a draw at UFC 127, and with Fitch earning his last victory at UFC 117 against Thiago Alves.
