UFC lightweights Joe Lauzon (22-7) and former title contender Gray ‘The Bully’ Maynard (11-1-1, 1NC) have verbally agreed to square off this December as part of UFC 155.

Officials confirmed the news Monday evening, posting the update at UFC.com.

Two of the lightweight division’s top talents will meet in Las Vegas on December 29, as former world title challenger Gray Maynard and the consistently exciting Joe Lauzon have verbally agreed to square off in what promises to be an all-action fight that will close out 2012 in style.

UFC 155 is expected to take place on December 29, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the MGM Grand Garden Arena as the promotions year-end pay-per-view event. Junior dos Santos will likely headline the event in his second UFC heavyweight title defense versus former champ Cain Velasquez.

Lauzon is coming off a double “Fight Night” bonus winning bout, tying him at the top with eleven bonuses with UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva. Lauzon earned those two bonuses with a third round submission win over Jamie Varner earlier this month at UFC on FOX 4. The win put Lauzon back into the win column after a first round knockout loss to Anthony Pettis.

Maynard is 1-1-1 in his last three Octagon appearances with a split decision victory versus Clay Guida at UFC on FX 4 this past June. The other two matches were versus former lightweight champ Frankie Edgar, with their famous UFC 125 five-round draw and their UFC 136 rematch, which saw Edgar end things via fourth round knockout. Before those two matches, Maynard had won eight straight inside the Octagon with a win over Kenny Florian at UFC 118 coming as his last victory.
