On Monday, we reported a bout between former TUF 9 finalist DaMarques ‘Darkness’ Johnson (16-11) and UFC newcomer Gunnar Nelson (9-0-1) for the upcoming UFC on FUEL TV 5 event after Nelson’s first opponent, Pascal Krauss withdrew due to injury.
With only a couple weeks to go before the end month European show, there is apparently not enough time for Johnson to make a cut down to 170-lbs, so on Tuesday promotion officials announced that Johnson and Nelson would meet at a catchweight of 175-lbs.
Following Krauss’ withdrawal, Rich Attonito had been tagged as his replacement but withdrew due to weight-cutting concerns in order to make the welterweight limit. Johnson stepped into the void and worked out a deal for the change in weight it seems.
UFC on Fuel TV: Struve vs. Miocic is scheduled to take place on September 29, 2012 at Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, England. Heavyweights Stefan Struve and Stipe Miocic headline the FUEL TV event.
Johnson vs. Nelson will appear on the shows preliminary card, which will stream live on Facebook.com/UFC.
