A light heavyweight bout between former Strikeforce heavyweight Chad ‘The Grave Digger’ Griggs (11-2) and French striker Cyrille ‘The Snake’ Diabaté (18-8-1) has been added to this Novembers UFC 154: St-Pierre vs. Condit event by promotion officials on Wednesday.
The two fighters will almost certainly meet on the preliminary card of UFC 154, which is expected to take place on November 17, 2012 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Griggs makes his light heavyweight debut against Diabaté having bowed out of a fight versus Phil Davis this past August due to injury. ‘The Grave Digger’ had his first fight inside the Octagon in April, seeing his six fight win streak stopped by Travis Browne losing via first round submission at UFC 145. Griggs earned his last victory in June 2011, earning a victory over Valentign Overeem in a Heavyweight Grand Prix Reserve bout.
Diabaté was briefly linked to a bout with Fabio Maldonado for the same Montreal card, but Maldonado took a fight with Glover Teixeira at UFC 153 by replacing an injured Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson. ‘The Snake’ is 3-2 in his five Octagon appearances, having earned a majority decision over Tom DeBlass last April at UFC on FUEL TV 2. The French striker lost his last fight in November 2011, after being submitted by Anthony Perosh at UFC 138.
