Lightweight fighter Shane Roller (11-7) is calling it quits after a five year career as a pro-mixed martial artist. Roller announced his retirement following a first round submission loss to Jacob Volkmann this past Friday an Minnesota at UFC on FX 5.
Roller informed fans of his intentions on Twitter (@shaneroller) earlier today.
– Looks like I’m hanging up the gloves for good. It was fun, but time to move on. Sux that it ended like that. Now startn the next chapter!!
Roller went 2-4 inside the Octagon, joining the promotion with the WEC merger back in 2011. His last victory took place in July at UFC 148 with a unanimous decision win over John Alessio. Other matches include a win over Thiago Tavares, as well as losses to Michael Johnson, TJ Grant and Melvin Guillard.
His record under the WEC banner was much better with a 6-2 record, going as far as losing a No. 1 contender match to Anthony Pettis at WEC 50 proceeding ‘Showtime’s’ lightweight title victory against Benson Henderson.
The 33-year-old fighter was a three-time collegiate All-American wrestler at Oklahoma State University.
