The ‘Darkness’ DaMarques Johnson (16-12) has been released by the Ultimate Fighting Championship promotion following his third straight loss inside the Octagon.
Johnson announced the news on Twitter (DaMarques_UFC) early Tuesday morning.
– And the hits keep on coming… No longer a UFC fighter.
The former “The Ultimate Fighter” season nine welterweight finalist stepped in on short notice this past Friday night to take on Icelandic newcomer Gunnar Nelson on the preliminary card of UFC on FUEL TV 5.
Despite looking to have Nelson in trouble early, the undefeated fighter quickly turned things around to land his own submission, finishing Johnson via rear-naked choke in the first round of their catchweight bout. Both fighters had agreed to 175-lbs cacthweight limit after Johnson stepped in for Pascal Krauss on very short notice, but the ‘Darkness’ wasn’t able to meet that weight hitting the scale at 183-lbs for the bout.
Johnson’s two other losses came at the hands of Mike Swick at UFC on FOX 4 last August and versus John Maguire at UFC on FUEL TV 2 last April.
Fans were introduced to Johnson as part of “TUF 9″ as a member of Team United States under coach Dan Henderson. Johnson fought his way into the final where he was submitted by James Wilks.
