Brazilian fighter Luis ‘Banha’ Cané (12-5, 1NC) was looking to change things around by dropping to middleweight for his last fight.

Cané made his 185-lbs debut at UFC 153 earlier this month versus Chris Camozzi at the Rio de Janeiro event. The result was not what ‘Banha’ would have wanted, losing by decision to his American opponent.

The defeat put Cané’s record at 1-4 over his last five matches.

Speaking to Tatame Magazine (via Fighters Only), Cané’s manager had this to say about his fighters release.

“They had to cut us now, but they said that when he gets back to the good pace of fighting they can re-sign him. He’ll keep fighting, and hope to be back soon to the UFC.”

“People have to understand that being cut from the UFC is not a disaster. Once you’ve got a name in the UFC, things get easier for a comeback. Every athlete is likely to have that phase. Soon he wins and returns to the UFC.”

“He was coming off two knee surgeries. At first, the doctor made a mistake and he had to have another. To compete at that level, for a lot of athletes, it’s hard. He made a great fight.”

Cané earned his last Octagon win in March 2011, finishing Elliot Marshall by first round TKO at UFC 128. His overall record in the UFC was 4-5, having debuted in December 2007 at UFC 79 in a disqualification loss versus James Irvin.
