Another Brazilian news agency has reported another bout for the upcoming new year UFC event as featherweights Diego Nunes (18-3) and ‘The Carny’ Nik Lentz (22-5-2, 1NC) look set to meet at the January show.
Portal Vale Tudo made the announcement on Thursday and was later confirmed by MMAWeekly.com with sources close to the fight.
Officials with the UFC have yet to announce the bout as well as the official title for the FUEL TV or FX event. The date though, seems set for January 19, 2013.
Nunes enters the match following a “Fight of the Night” matchup with Bart Palaszewski, winning a unanimous decision at the UFC on FX 5 show. The victory put the Brazilian back into the win column having suffered a decision defeat at the hands of Dennis Siver in April 2012 at UFC on FUEL TV 2. Nunes record inside the Octagaon now stands at 3-2.
Lentz is also looking to string a couple of wins together after a first round TKO finish of Eiji Mitsuoka at UFC 150 in ‘The Carny’s’ featherweight debut. It was Lentz first win in three matches having suffered defeats at the hands of Evan Dunham at UFC on FOX 2, and to Mark Bocek at UFC 140. The other match was a “No Contest” result against Charles Oliveira at UFC on Versus 4.
