A featherweight bout between Leonard ‘Bad Boy’ Garcia (15-9-1) and Cody ‘AK Kid’ McKenzie (13-3) has been booked for the end year UFC 155: Dos Santos vs. Velasquez II event.
Officials announced the bout on Twitter (@UFC) on Saturday (Nov. 3, 2012) afternoon.
UFC 155: Dos Santos vs. Velasquez II is scheduled for December 29, 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The bout is expected to appear on the events preliminary card.
This bout is certain to be a “loser goes home” bout with Garcia sporting a 1-4 record and with McKenzie holding a 1-3 record over their last few Octagon appearances.
Garcia has dropped his last three, losing decisions to Matt Grice at UFC on FX 3 and to Nam Phan in a rematch at UFC 136, while being submitted by Chan Sung Jung at UFN 24 in their much anticipated rematch. ‘Bad Boy’ earned his last win, a “Fight of the Night” performance, at the TUF 12 Finale, winning a controversial split decision against Phan in their first match.
McKenzie made his featherweight debut this past July, suffering a 31-second knockout loss to Chad Mendes after ‘Money’ dropped him with a body punch. Previous to that loss, the ‘AK Kid’ earned a submission victory over Marcus LeVesseur at UFC on FUEL TV 3. McKenzie’s previous losses, the first two of his career, came at the hands of Vagner Rocha, at UFN 25, and to Yves Edwards at UFC Fight for the Troops 2.
