UFC bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz (19-1) has undergone a second knee surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament after damaging his knee this past spring during training.

According to trainer Eric Del Fierro, who spoke to MMAjunkie.com today, the first surgery to replace the torn ACL ended in failure as a replacement ligament was rejected by Cruz’s body. That initial surgery also included replacing his MCL ligament which ended in a success.

This second surgery took place this past week to replace the ACL and could sideline the champ for another six to nine months.

“He’s pissed and disappointed,” Del Fierro said. “But I think he’s doing better now. Once he talked to the doctor and found out what was going on, he felt much better.”

Cruz coached this past springs TUF Live series opposite Urijah Faber with the two scheduled to meet at UFC 148 before Cruz was forced out with his knee injury.
