Anytime a fighter pulls off a win the media are quick to ask “who’s next?” Last night it was no different following Rory MacDonald’s (14-1) one sided victory over BJ Penn at UFC on FOX 5.
In the past MacDonald has been reserved when it came to answering questions like that but this time the young Canadian welterweight was quick to call out the only fighter to beat him inside the cage, Carlos Condit.
The two squared off over two-years ago at UFC 115 in Vancouver, BC and saw MacDonald control the first two rounds. Condit would make an aggressive effort in the third catching his opponent in the final seconds finishing things with seven seconds on the clock via TKO.
“I was just laying there getting beaten on, my face looked like I was the guy from “The Goonies” after. I was embarrassed, I was embarrassed about my performance and how I held myself.”
“It did a lot of damage and I don’t think I’ve been the same person since, so I want to get that back.”
MacDonald also noted that he would like to face Condit in the spring, likely at the next Canadian event.
Condit is coming off a title unification loss to Georges St-Pierre having lost by decision just a few weeks ago in Montreal at UFC 154.
The media were quick to ask MacDonald if he would ever fight his Tri-Star teammate GSP for the title.
“I don’t know I’m not there yet, so I’ll cross that bridge when I get there, but I don’t feel that I need to fight Georges. I don’t think it’s going to happen. It won’t happen. Me and him are friends.
“He’s done a lot for me, and I’m very grateful for it. I’m not going to stab him in the back, and I don’t want to wreck my opportunity training at Tri-star. They’ve done a lot of things for me. So I don’t know, we’ll see what happens. There are a lot of fights for me right now.”
