An undetermined training injury to former TUF 12 participant Cody McKenzie (13-3) has forced the ‘AK Kid’ out of his upcoming bout with Leonard ‘Bad Boy’ Garcia (15-9-1) at this months UFC 155: Dos Santos vs. Velasquez II event.
News of the injury to McKenzie surfaced via MMAjunkie.com on Tuesday afternoon after the website spoke to sources close to the fighter.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship has yet to announce a new opponent or an injury for the event.
UFC 155: Dos Santos vs. Velasquez II is scheduled to take place on December 29, 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This bout would have been McKenzie’s second attempt at a victory fighting at featherweight having dropped his 145-lbs debut to Chad Mendes at UFC 148 following a 31-second knockout. The ‘AK Kid’ earned his last win in May of this year, submitting Marcus LeVesseur via guillotine choke at the UFC on FUEL TV 3 event.
Garcia is in bad need of a win having lost three straight losses on his record. ‘Bad Boy’ lost a decision to Matt Grice this past June at UFC on FX 3 as well as a decision to Nam Phan at UFC 136 in their rematch. Another rematch also saw Garcia lose at UFN 24 in March of last year versus Chan Sung Jung. His last win came in December 2015 over Nam Phan at the TUF 12 Finale.
