UFC middleweight Ed ‘Short Fuse’ Herman (20-8, 1NC) will cross promotions to meet former Strikeforce champ Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza (16-3, 1NC) in a 194-lbs catchweight bout at next months Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine event.

The announcement was made by Strikeforce on Thursday when they released the full-lineup for the January card.

Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine is expected to take place on January 12, 2013 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Herman steps in for an injured Lorenz Larkin who is out with a knee injury. Souza was a replacement fighter himself, stepping in for injured champ Luke Rockhold.

When Herman steps into the Strikeforce cage, he will become the first UFC fighter to transition to it’s sister promotion. Heavyweight Frank Mir was to earlier this fall versus Daniel Cormier but an injury forced him out of that fight.

‘Short Fuse’ had a decision loss overturned to a “No Contest” in his last fight after opponent Jake Shields failed a post-fight drug test at UFC 150. Previous to that match, Herman had won three straight, all finishes. He submitted Clifford Starks at UFC 143 and Kyle Noke at UFC on Versus 5. While stopping Tim Credeur via TKO at the TUF 13 Finale.

Souza has won two straight and is 6-1 in his last seven matches. He stepped in as a late replacement for Bristol Marunde this summer at the Rousey vs. Kaufman event to KO opponent Derek Brunson in 41-seconds. ‘Jacare’ also submitted Marunde in a previous bout in March of this year in the third round of an Ohio event. The loss was to Luke Rockhold in which Souza lost the middleweight title by decision.
