UFC 158 has added a fifth welterweight bout to its powerhouse roster of 170-pounders as Canadian Jordan “Young Gun” Mein has verbally agreed to make his UFC debut against 11-time UFC veteran Dan Miller, a New Jersey native known for his toughness.
Mein, a 23-year-old Albertan, comes in with a record of 24-8 including victories over veterans Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos, Joe Riggs, Marius Zaromskis, Josh Burkman and Forrest Petz.
UFC 158: St-Pierre vs. Diaz is expected to take place on March 16, 2013 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The event is headlined by a welterweight title match between champion Georges St-Pierre and former Strikeforce title holder Nick Diaz. The bout between Miller and Mein is the fifth welterweight bout named to the event and should appear on the evenings prelim card.
Mein is 2-1 in his last three and is 8-1 in his last nine bouts. His most recent fight took place under the Score Fighting Series banner in November, a first round TKO finish of Forrest Petz. Previous to that he had a three fight run with Strikeforce earning a decision over Tylser Stinson in July, losing a split decision to Tyron Woodley in January, and a third round TKO finish of Evangelista ‘Cyborg’ Santos in September 2011.
Miller made his welterweight debut in the Octagon in his last bout, ending a two fight losing skid by submitting opponent Ricardo Funch with a guillotine at UFC on FX 4 in June. The victory also earned Miller a “Submission of the Night” bonus, the first “Fight Night” bonus of his career. The two losses were fought at 185-lbs, losing decisions to Rousimar Palhares at UFC 134 and to Nate Marquardt at UFC 128.
