A middleweight bout looks to be on tap between ‘Filthy’ Tom Lawlor (8-5, 1NC) and Michael ‘Judo’ Kuiper (12-1) for this coming April’s upcoming UFC on FUEL TV 9 event.
Swedish website MMAnytt.se reported the news on Saturday night.
UFC on FUEL TV 9 is expected to take place on April 6, 2013 at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. The bout between Lawlor and Kuiper is certain to appear on the prelim portion of the event card.
Lawlor is 4-2 in his last six matches and enters this bout on a loss have dropped a split decision to Francis Carmont last November in Montreal at UFC 154. The ‘Filthy’ one earned his last win in May by stopping Jason MacDonald by knockout at UFC on FUEL TV 3 also picking up the “Knockout of the Night” bonus. In this current stretch, Lawlor also earned a win over Patrick Cote while losing bouts to Chris Weidman, Joe Doerksen and Aaron Simpson.
Kuiper is 1-1 in the Octagon so far having earned a win over Jared Hamman at UFC 150 last summer via second round TKO. The loss, the first of Kuiper’s career, took place one year ago at UFC 143 and was against Rafael Natal by decision. ‘Judo’ had been linked to a UFC on FX 7 match with Thiago Perpetuo but injuries eventually forced both fighters off the Brazil card.
