A pair of lightweights have verbally agreed to meet this spring as part of the UFC on FX 8 event in Brazil, as Gleison Tibau (26-9) welcomes John Cholish (8-2) to his homeland in May.
News of the bout was confirmed by MMAFighting.com late Tuesday night.
UFC on FX: Belfort vs. Rockhold (aka UFC on FX 8) is expected to take place on May 18, 2013 at the Arena Jaraguá in Jaraguá do Sul, Brazil. The event will see former champions Vitor Belfort and Luke Rockhold meet in a middleweight bout in the main event.
Tibau is 1-2 in his last three Octagon appearances and is 4-2 in his last six. The long-time UFC veteran dropped a split decision to Evan Dunham last month at UFC 156 while earning a decision against Francisco Trinaldo at UFC 153 in October. The other loss was also by decision, in July 2012 versus Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 148.
Cholish hasn’t been in action since last May when he saw an eight fight win streak end at the hands of Danny Castillo at UFC on FOX 3. Cholish had been linked to a UFC on FOX 5 match versus Yves Edwards but was forced out with a groin injury. He debuted at UFC 140 against Mitch Clarke, ending the fight via second round TKO.
