WARNING: The video you are about to watch contains some NSFW language.
If kindergarten math lessons and those annoying kids from the AT&T commercials have taught me anything, it’s that two is greater than one.
What a lot of people don’t know, though, is the finest application of this concept could very well rest in the sport of mixed martial arts.
Don’t get me wrong—just one knockout is awesome. Nothing that happens in a fight is quite as dramatic as a brutal KO, and such an ending is sure to bring fans to their feet in a wild fit of excitement.
But two knockouts at the same time? That, my friends, is just remarkable.
I don’t blame you if you missed Galaxy Fight Night IV from Yuba City, Calif. With a main event that featured Benito Lopez vs. Travis Whitley, fans were not exactly lining up in droves to catch this card.
Oh, how they all missed out. A video that surfaced on Reddit.com captured the beauty of MMA in one of the night’s preliminary fights. Brandon Alexander took on Aaron Britt in a bout that figured to be, well, an amateur MMA scrap.
Just 14 seconds into the fight though, everybody in attendance got way more than anticipated.
Let’s break it down.
Blue shirt (Alexander) and red shirt (Britt) touch gloves, and the latter quickly fires off a one-two that the former deftly avoids. The two fighters paw at each other for a couple seconds, and Alexander throws a left inside leg kick that leaves him open to Britt’s right-hand counter.
What happens next is sensational.
Alexander resets from his leg kick for an instance and fires off a right hand of his own just as Britt looks for the counter. The two fighters’ attacks collide at precisely the same time, and it’s nightie night for the duo.
The crowd erupts as the prelim ends in a double knockout.
In the full version of the video, you can hear the ring announcer declare the bout a no-contest due to the incredible finish—a fittingly bizarre result.
The fabled double knockout is a rarity in MMA, but it has happened before.
Which one do you think is the more incredible?
