UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre is in the midst of his weight-cut for his upcoming bout with Nick Diaz this Saturday in the main event of UFC 158. Despite his own misery, ‘Rush’ is still doing his best to promote the fight by doing interviews with the media.
In this particular telephone interview, the guys over at SirusXM’s Fight Club change things up from the standard questions about this weekends bout in Montreal to ask the champ what he loves outside of the cage.
Fans of GSP and the hardcores will now that it’s paleontology, the study of prehistoric life, in particular dinosaurs.
Here’s what the champ had to say about his passion outside of the cage.
“Yeah, I love paleontology. That is one of the things I really love outside of mixed martial arts.
I have been studying paleontology since I was a kid. I love it. I love it even more than mixed martial arts.
I like to keep myself updated on the paleontology subject. I am a member of a lot of paleontological websites and organizations. Every time they discover something new they…I have the information in my email.
I receive…I have a gift a Megalodon tooth which is a pre-historic shark. The tooth is like two-million years old and a Tyrannosaurus Rex mini-skull and I plan to have other stuff too that I want.
…It’s actually not a real T-Rex it’s an imitation. A real T-Rex skull I couldn’t put it in my room I’d have to put it in my back yard.”
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Megalodon, which means “big tooth,” it was a species of shark which lived approx. 28-1.5 million years ago which reached a length of 15.9-20.3 metres (52-67 ft). It basically looked like a great white shark on steroids.
George has one of these at home and it is still apparently still very sharp.
Maybe he should carry that with him wherever he goes just in case he gets jumped by Diaz before Saturday’s fight?
