The long-awaited middleweight Yoel Romero vs. Paulo Costa match-up appears to finally have its (latest) home.

ESPN’s Ariel Helwani just reported that Romero vs. Costa has been verbally agreed upon for August 17’s UFC 241 pay-per-view from Anaheim, California:

Finally Happening?

If and when the bout is officially announced, it will mark the finalization of a long and winding road to getting it to happen. The two hulking 185-pound sluggers were rumored to battle at last November’s UFC 230. But Romero reportedly needed more time to heal up from the injuries he suffered in his five-round war with Robert Whittaker last June. He also appeared on a reality TV show.

The pair was next reported to throw down at April 27’s UFC Ft. Lauderdale. However, Romero told Helwani he had heard Costa had failed a USADA drug test. ‘The Solider of God’ soon walked those comments back. But a degree of truth was soon unearthed. Costa was found to have used an illegal IV by USADA stemming from his 2017 win over Johny Hendricks at UFC 217.

It was a strange set of circumstances given the timing. Costa already fought and won once since the infraction. He beat Uriah Hall by TKO at last July’s UFC 226. The rising star was handed a retroactive six-month suspension for the infraction. He’s able to compete immediately as the suspension has already expired. The April fight with Romero was unrealistic as Costa went through the necessary steps to get his IV case resolved.

The time has allowed the rivalry to grow to new levels. But it’s safe to say that, almost after a year of back-and-forth negotiations, it’s time to get this one over with. The winner could move on to a title shot.

UFC 241 is headlined by the awaited heavyweight title rematch between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic.

Daniel Cormier doesn’t think Brock Lesnar is done with the UFC.

Daniel Cormier’s dream fight against Brock Lesnar didn’t quite come to fruition, but ‘DC’ isn’t giving up hope just yet.

After almost a year of hype it was announced last week that Lesnar, who is currently signed with WWE, was officially out of his proposed heavyweight title fight versus Cormier, which was expected to take place later this year.

It was reported that Lesnar couldn’t come to terms with the UFC over fighter pay, and Cormier said the negotiation process is usually very complicated.

“I don’t know. When we get these fights there are a lot of negotiations, a lot of things that need to be discussed and hammered out,” Cormier said. “I don’t know if Brock was able to come to terms with UFC, I just don’t know. I’m sure he will bounce back, he always seems to land on his feet. I just got the call that Brock was done fighting and what do I want to do next.”

Although Lesnar didn’t renew his UFC contract this time around, Cormier believes the former heavyweight champion is destined to re-sign with the premiere fight promotion at some point in the future.

“I think that Brock is a competitor and I do believe that if the right opportunity presents itself for him he would do it,” Cormier said. “The guy is a fighter. Everybody kind of shits on Brock Lesnar and talk like this guy can’t fight, but he is a fighter and he is a competitor and he likes money.

“So for the right amount of money and the right opportunity, I am sure Brock Lesnar could be convinced to come back.”

With Lesnar out, Cormier will defend his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic, who he originally knocked out to become the UFC’s first ever simultaneous light heavyweight and heavyweight champion at UFC 226.

UFC 241: Cormier vs. Miocic 2 takes place later this year, August 17 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

UFC welterweight “Funky” Ben Askren is known for being just as brutal outside of the cage as inside. Wait until you get a load of him trying to be nice.

If you like quick-witted humor, Askren might just be the best social media follow in the entire sport of mixed martial arts. Yes, Askren has a sharp tongue and he holds no punches (on social media) but did you know he has a softer, nicer side too?

Well, sort of, anyway. The 19-0 welterweight sat down with ESPN MMA for a brief 58-second video on Twitter. The catch, Askren had to “play nice” by only offering a compliment for each name brought up.

As you can see, it almost pained him to do so, and the results were hilarious. Check it out here:

Askren will make his second walk to the Octagon at UFC 239 in July during International Fight Week. He will face Jorge Masvidal in what has become one of MMA’s most awaited grudge matches.
