Derek Brunson was back to being his explosive self when he competed opposite Roan Carneiro in his seventh Octagon bout at UFC Fight Night 83 last night (Sun., Feb. 21, 2016) inside CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Brunson, a Jackson-Wink MMA fighter, came into his contest with “Jucao” a winner of three straight, including two first-round knockouts in-a-row. Carneiro returned from a lengthy injury layoff and last defeated Mark Munoz one year ago.

The Albuquerque-based Brunson fought long, but gradually closed the distance on his Brazilian opponent and eventually found his opening in the form of a slip on the part of the latter. Carneiro, 37, overextended himself, fell to the mat and felt the wrath of Brunson, who unleashed a horde of punches of the defenseless fighter.

Brunson was awarded the first-round TKO victory. The 32-year-old picks up his sixth Octagon win, while Carneiro drops to 1-1 in his current stint with the promotion.
